This short film is exhibited on YouTube, which means that anyone can
pretty much watch it. It can gain revenue from adverts by doing so, which means
that its audience is the largest it can be as an independent film, we would
also do the same sort of thing with our film we make in media. We would exhibit
it on YouTube so we can link it to places and show many of our friends etc.
This is the easiest way of getting to the audience in my opinion, especially
without the costs which would be perfect for the independent market. This film
won several awards and was nominated for several other ones, this could mean it
was presented at these places for a larger audience.
The audience of the actual film seems to target a general audience; it’s
a kind of romantic short film as well as a short film set as if it is. I can
see why it would be a good short film when aimed at perhaps an older generation
since a mix tape isn’t something which is common in the modern era. This would
probably not connect to a younger audience because of this detail and
plot/story. The costumes could also suggest this, because they seem like they
are in the fashion that the short story was set (or at least seeming to be set
in). The girl was in a dress and dancing on her bed which may connote youth and
excitement whilst on the other hand the boy does similar things but his body
language shows his excitement too, bobbing his head up and down. That helped to
define his mood to the audience, the happiness can connote love between the
characters which ultimately can suggest that the genre of romance is apparent,
either that or they are very good friends, but the happiness between a girl and
a boy is usually seen as being Love in this sense, which means that they make
the genre aimed towards an audience which like romance.
I don’t think there a particular aim towards one
gender, but in fact is aimed for both. There doesn’t seem to be many
conventions based only for one but instead based for both, like there is a
balanced amount of main characters gender wise, excluding the mum as she seems
to be insignificant to the narrative. But for age, I don’t think this is aimed
for teens but for a general age audience as everyone can relate to be honest.
